F#CK It
At one point or another, we've all had the desire to start making better choices (eating healthier, exercising, sleeping more, stressing less).
In the past, I would take an 'oh F it' attitude where I'd start the week out strong (with say eating healthier), have a couple indiscretions early in the week, and then say to myself, "oh f*#k it, I'll start again on Monday".
*Proceeds to pick up a blueberry muffin or almond croissant for breakfast each morning for the rest of the week* <---This was me many a times during a typical work week not realizing this type of meal set me up for sugar crashes and cravings all day long.
Does this sound familiar?
The problem with this mindset is that it keeps you feeling like you're constantly failing and starting over, the vicious cycle we all go through, never really getting close to what you want to achieve. Your goals then feel unattainable and you convince yourself you didn't really want whatever it was in the first place...right, F it.
The other challenge with this is that it keeps your body regularly craving that same type of food. Your body adapts to what you feed it regularly and keeps wanting more of the same, especially when it comes to starting your day with sugar and processed carbs.
The key to changing habits is to first shift your mindset surrounding them. Any tiny, positive steps in the right direction IS progress.
Unfortunately, we've been trained to live in an all-or-nothing society. We either succeed or we fail, no in between, trying doesn't always give us the results we want so it's sometimes perceived negatively. It doesn't have to be this way.
Just because we're not doing something perfectly or exactly the way we think we should be, doesn't mean it's wrong. YOU drive the narrative.
Stop throwing your hands up every time you take a step backwards. Acknowledge it, move forward with two more steps and be on your way. Doing this daily keeps you consistent, accountable and closer to that goal you really want to reach.
Sometimes it takes adding in one good thing at a time rather than taking something away. It's a start.
