Do Something Different
I don't know what it is, but this change of season has really gotten me fired up to do things differently than I have been doing for a while.
It's not uncommon that I'll get an extra boost of motivation or inspiration with a big season change or after a big holiday. It's kinda like the idea of setting intentions or new goals in the new year. Whatever it is, I'm taking it in and sharing some of the juju with you!
I see many of my clients get stuck because they have the intentions of making big changes for the better: in the way the eat, move, manage their day-to-day lives and habits, etc. What they find is that they want to change it ALL immediately and think that's the answer to feeling better, both mentally and physically. This can sabotage the process.
The challenge with this is that material change takes time and a daily commitment to yourself to keep going, even when you don't feel like it or you don't see change right away. The other key to success and progress is starting small and building on those tiny habits, celebrating each step (even if it's just a quiet high five to yourself).
And here's the thing — those small wins? They WILL add up. Before you know it, you've created a solid foundation of healthy habits that feel second nature. You start to feel the shift: more energy, clearer mind, a stronger sense of control over your life, and you won't believe that you were missing out on these feelings for so long.
Honestly, that's how I felt when I made the same shift. I thought I was pretty healthy, felt pretty good and was doing the right things (for the most part). Until I started this journey--started to make changes in the food I ate, how I moved, my thoughts, etc.--I didn't even think twice.
I realize now that most people don't even know what it's like to feel their best because our baseline has been to not feel good or just feel ok. That's a pretty sh#tty way to go through life when there's SO much we can do to feel amazing.
So, as we move through this season of change, I challenge you to do something different. Take that one thing you've been thinking about improving and start small. Maybe it's drinking more water, stretching for five minutes in the morning or at night, or swapping out a less healthy snack for something that fuels you better.
If you've already started and want to level up, think about what that next step could look like. Maybe you have amazing workouts, but aren't able to get to that next level. Maybe the next step is incorporating different food into your diet. Maybe you lost some weight with food choices but want to get stronger, what will you challenge yourself with next?
Whatever it is, commit to it and see where the journey takes you. You might be surprised at how just one small shift can inspire even more positive change.
Here's to doing things differently and thriving through this season!
